Since their inception, the engineering programs at Hope College have experienced consistent growth. Due to this sustained expansion, many of the courses and labs have been held in spaces converted from other programs within VanderWerf Hall.
Fishbeck’s Grand Rapids office recently underwent a renovation bringing an open workspace concept to our Architectural Department. This new flexible layout helps foster collaboration and promotes learning.
With increased visitor volume and robust children’s programming, Herrick District Library’s North Branch needed to add additional space to its existing 5,000-sf building. A complete renovation to the existing building, along with a 5,500-sf addition, will serve as a new community focused facility.
The project added approximately 31,000 gross sf over seven levels, to be used as offices, classrooms, and seminar rooms, and included the addition of approximately 20,000 gross sf in the existing building to create new classrooms/laboratories.
To create an atmosphere considerate of a mixture of generations a phased implementation plan intended to slowly support a cultural shift was initiated. A handful of building core improvements became the catalyst for visible change.
