Visibility and flexibility were two of the main goals for this space, as well as maximizing the ceiling height — a challenge in a 1960s vintage academic building.
Movable furniture with choices for low, soft seating or counter-height work areas offer flexibility to work in a group or independently. Monitors and plenty of USB ports for charging are provided in the commons and in the corridor and are integrated into additional bench seating.
The Dean wanted this space to be owned by the students. Views from adjacent corridors encourage use and serve to promote the College of Nursing. A visible area to highlight donors was also important since the project was funded by former WSU nursing college graduates.
The project was completed on-time and within budget, however the COVID-19 pandemic put the opening on hold for a year. In the fall of 2021, the nursing students returned to campus and continue to enjoy using this amenity.
