MyMichigan Health | Alpena Medical Center Patient Tower

Alpena Hospital and Alpena County have experienced an increase in population over the last decade with retirees from southeast Michigan flocking to this affordable community on Lake Huron. The hospital needed new private patient rooms and a new surgical department to handle the increase in both inpatient and outpatient surgeries.

The project included a new façade with entry into a registration and check-in area that connects to the renovated hospital lobby, 60 patient rooms, a labor and delivery suite, and a operating suite with a sterile processing department. The operating suites include five cutting-edge operating rooms equipped with the latest technology to ensure precision and patient safety. There are two specialized procedure rooms designed to accommodate a wide range of minimally invasive preventative and diagnostic procedures, enhancing the facility’s capacity for comprehensive healthcare.

To support post-operative care and patient recovery, the facility offers 19 preoperative and recovery rooms, along with five well-equipped post-anesthesia care units (PACUs). Fishbeck provided technical architecture support for the development of the clinical areas and the core and shell, as well as full structural engineering design through construction administration services. The project team was led by Three Rivers Corporation with Hord Coplan Macht as the lead design firm.
