Michigan Department of Transportation | MLK Boulevard over M-10, Design/Build Project

To accommodate an increase in traffic to entertainment venues, the M-10/M-5 interchange was modified and updated to provide additional storage for vehicles exiting the highway. Improving the exit ramp geometrics and capacity required the replacement of the dilapidated MLK structure and reconfiguring the west service drive running parallel with M-10. Additionally, Grand River Avenue (M-5) from I-94 to Cass Avenue was rehabilitated with cold milling and asphalt overlay. A road diet was performed, incorporating bike lanes for the entire length in each direction by modification of pavement markings. Sidewalk ramps were improved to meet ADA requirements.

As lead design consultant, Fishbeck was responsible for road/bridge design, retaining walls, traffic signal, maintenance of traffic, hydraulics, permanent signing/markings, lighting, and municipal utilities.

The utility coordination with DWSD, PLD, and other franchise utilities on the bridge and immediate vicinity were an integral component for successful completion within an accelerated schedule.
