The existing pedestrian bridge spanning the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids needed rehabilitation to continue serving as a popular tourist destination during Art Prize and a scenic location for wedding ceremonies and photographs.
In addition to construction inspection and administration on this project, Fishbeck designed the bridge rehabilitation improvements including substructure painting; deck, railing, and joint repairs; approach replacement; traffic maintenance plans; and bridge lighting upgrades. As part of the lighting upgrades, Fishbeck completed a comprehensive evaluation of the existing bridge lighting and recommended programmable lighting fixtures, which feature LED lights and the ability to change light colors remotely.
