The design and construction of this renovation project responds to the tremendous growth of GVSU’s academic programs in the Kirkhof College of Nursing and the College of Health Professions; with a particular focus on supporting the growth of healthcare education simulation. This project is the latest addition to GVSU’s Health Hill Campus, strategically located on the Medical Mile in downtown Grand Rapids and compliments the academic programs in the adjacent Daniel and Pamella DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health (opened in 2021) and the nearby Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall (opened in 2018); both of which were also designed by Fishbeck.
The renovation encompasses almost the entirety of the third floor. Through a mix of repurposing existing space and major renovation, the project houses the administrative and in-patient healthcare simulation functions while the third floor of the Daniel and Pamella DeVos Center will house the out-patient functions. The two floors are connected with wide and inviting corridors at multiple points, creating a seamless transition between the two buildings.
This project, when combined with the Daniel and Pamella DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health and Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall, provide GVSU with 67,800 sf of simulation space on their Health Hill Campus.
