Grand Rapids Community College | Applied Technology Center Renovation

Grand Rapids Community College | Applied Technology Center Renovation

West Michigan is home to one of the nation’s largest and most diverse manufacturing sectors, leading to resurgence and continued job growth across the state. This growth has impacted the classrooms, equipment, and laboratory usage of GRCC’s facilities.

The Applied Technology Center renovation includes approximately 43,066 sf within the existing facility, and a 2-story expansion of approximately 18,416 sf. The combination of renovation and expansion allowed the college to leverage existing labs and infrastructure to reconfigure existing spaces to meet program needs and to support new program development. The renovation and addition is designed to provide an environment that supports and promotes active learning and experiential problem-solving while providing a high degree of visibility for the workforce training labs and IT curriculum. Student collaboration/study spaces are strategically placed throughout the building and serve to transform circulation elements into vital building features. The project supports today’s educational technology, as well as the ability to accommodate pedagogical and technological advancements.
