Commonwealth Associates, Inc. | Office Environment Renovations

This project included the renovation of a 32,000-sf 4-story plus basement mid-century modern commercial structure located in downtown Jackson, Michigan. Commonwealth Associates Inc. (CAI) acquired a former bank building and through a multiple design and construction phase delivery program, is realizing a new headquarters to house their 270 employees. The project is being fulfilled through three separate design and construction phases to facilitate CAI business and financial strategies. The first phase encompassed interior demolition within the 4-stories and basement along with exterior façade improvements. Exterior improvements included replacement of entry and glazing systems with energy efficient systems, corporate building signage, and the historic restoration of the marble and stone cladding.

The second phase encompassed the renovation of the basement, first, and second floors. Renovation included redesigned floor plan layouts, new finishes, and furnishings for offices, collaboration spaces, kitchenettes, and restrooms for the CAI employees and visitors. Special focus was placed upon the restoration and reuse of historic wood paneling, decorative ceilings, and safety deposit boxes along with the redesign of the original bank vault into a collaboration space.

The third phase, with an anticipated completion in of summer of 2024, includes the renovation of the third and fourth floors. Renovations will carry the same focus as the second phase to the remaining two stories to complete CAI’s vision for the structure, and more importantly their business presence within downtown Jackson.
