TDY in Situ Remediation

Fishbeck was retained to complete the characterization of a site impacted with TCE. During the initial evaluation, it was observed that TCE and its breakdown products had already appeared in an offsite groundwater monitoring well. Based on the likelihood of continued offsite migration, Fishbeck recommended an interim response action be implemented to mitigate the impact.

Based on the success of the pilot test, a full-scale aquifer remediation system was designed and implemented during late 2005. The system uses a series of six reactive barriers, positioned transverse to groundwater flow, to create multiple anaerobic zones and reduce the chlorinated compounds. Emulsified soybean oil was selected as the electron donor.
