This project involved full reconstruction of one of the most highly traveled and well-known roadways in Macomb County, with an extremely high density of consumer-based businesses. The complexity called for Fishbeck to lead a team that included three subconsultants to help provide MDOT with thorough oversight and successful reconstruction of M-59. The project consisted of 5.80 miles of arterial road reconstruction, a lane addition, and bridge rehabilitation. The project also included extensive drainage improvements with median basin work, new modernized mast-arm configuration traffic signals with remote communications, installation of ITS conduit, new signage, permanent pavement markings, decorative crosswalks, HMA and concrete driveways, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, HMA shared-use path, ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, roadway widening, and new bridge approaches.
Our team provided engineering assistance; work zone traffic and safety administration; senior, lead, and staff inspection; field utility coordination; GPS data collection and grade checks; all office technician duties; and materials testing and quality assurance, for the MDOT Macomb TSC.
