Fishbeck was selected to complete scanning for a unique project on a portion of M-25 along the shoreline of Lake Huron in Sanilac Township. High water levels had caused the bank to erode near this stretch of highway, causing concern for the stabilization of the roadway. Due to the steep sluffed banks along the road, traditional survey methods could not be used. Fishbeck used its terrestrial 3D scanner to complete mapping of the banks and roadway from a safe distance away from the eroding shoreline. With millions of points collected, Fishbeck was able to create a very detailed surface of the bank to aid in design and stabilization methods by engineers. In total, 30 scans were done to create a detailed point cloud model of the area. Fishbeck also used its unmanned aerial system to record and document existing conditions at the time of survey. This gave the team a very unique perspective on the conditions of the site, as the banks were too unstable to view from the shoreline.
