Fishbeck often uses 3D laser scanning as the first step of planning and executing a project. 3D laser scanning uses light detection and ranging (LiDAR) measurement techniques to quickly and accurately collect data on the size and shape of an object or environment. A 3D laser scanner, using an eye-safe laser, sweeps across the target area gathering millions of unique X,Y,Z values in a matter of minutes. Data is collected and grouped into a “point cloud” database that can be viewed, manipulated and analyzed as a 3D model in standard CAD systems. The end result is highly accurate data that can be used as new challenges arise in a project. With its high-confidence capability, laser scanning can be used in many different industries, reducing overall project cost and duration.
