Michigan Department of Transportation | I-696 and Church Street Bridge

The Fishbeck team provided full construction engineering for drainage system upgrades, superstructure and substructure repair, tree, road, and parking lot removals, and concrete slab construction, at three pedestrian plaza structures over I-696 in the cities of Southfield and Oak Park. The majority of the work was on the Church Street Plaza Bridge, where icicles had been forming between the bridge beams above the freeway for several winters.

Fishbeck was also responsible for coordination with the City of Oak Park, as well as survey oversight and inspection, for playground equipment installation to ensure the new drainage system was not punctured during foundation drilling. Fishbeck also provided mobile LiDAR survey of the underside of the deck once it was unloaded, and performed a second survey when construction was completed and the bridge was fully loaded, for use by the MDOT design team to determine the resulting as-built beam deflection.
