The Blue Dot Lab is a new facility typology unique to GVSU. Its response is driven by the distinct role the facility will play for the University community — digital skills development and digital literacy. Through conversations with faculty, staff, and students, Fishbeck and its partners developed a design solution that humanizes the digital world through connections to nature and each other.
Learning studios replace traditional classrooms to support an evolving pedagogy focused on team-based experiences. Reacting to the ever-changing digital space,
the studios are designed around a standardized module allowing long-term flexibility. The facility creates a unique ecosystem supporting interdisciplinary interactions, private sector partnerships, and the community at large.
