City of Grand Rapids | City Commission Chambers

City of Grand Rapids | City Commission Chambers

Grand Rapids’ Office of the City Commission is a body of leadership composed of elected officials and the Grand Rapids City Manager. The City Commission Chambers are where this legislative body meets to create community policies.

Located on the ninth floor of the Grand Rapids City Hall, the space was in need reconfiguration and updated utilities. Fishbeck was hired as the construction manager and worked as a team with the architect, Post Associates, and the electrical and mechanical engineer, GeoTech.

The updates consisted of demolishing the existing City Chambers and rebuilding the space with an elevated Chamber dais– a curved desk for Commissioners to sit behind, new HVAC ductwork, architectural drywall and grid ceilings, lighting, flooring, window coverings, and upgraded audio/visual systems that are required to televise the meetings. The project expanded to include replacing carpet and repainting throughout the majority of the ninth floor.
