The 35,500-sf building was built in the 1980s and needed a facelift and new infrastructure. Fishbeck designed a new entrance canopy and lobby. The building was completely gutted; new mechanical, electrical, and IT systems were included in the design scope. The site parking and landscaping were updated, including improvements to stormwater detention. In addition, Fishbeck performed a traffic study to help Corewell Health (formerly Spectrum Health) determine how to avoid traffic congestion entering and exiting the site near the adjacent busy intersection of Michigan and College Avenues. Fishbeck worked closely with Corewell Health facilities representatives, health system user groups, the City of Grand Rapids, and the construction manager to balance space needs and budget requirements on a fast-track schedule.
