A confidential client proposed to repurpose the existing truss structure that provides access to a mooring dolphin in the Ohio River. Fishbeck prepared a Feasibility Study to repurpose this truss style platform. Fishbeck performed a structural inspection to determine the in-service condition of the truss components and generated existing plans to aid in the structural analysis for the proposed loading conditions on the platform. A combination of ground access techniques and equipment, along with an aerial drone, were utilized to document the members and their conditions. Results and recommendations were summarized that supported the feasibility for the conversion of the structure. Additionally, Fishbeck captured an updated aerial map incorporating ground control points of the entire facility to aid in the development of a topographic survey. Due to the project site proximity to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), the Fishbeck UAS team coordinated with CVG to safely perform the drone operations.
