These are 5 aspects of a successful project public engagement plan
It’s a big, bright room. Rows of chairs are placed in neat rows facing the podium. Colorful project renderings with design alternatives are carefully spaced around the room with eager, informed individuals stationed nearby to answer questions from the public. Will they come? All the mailers and newspaper notices were sent. Everyone is staring at the entrance, waiting for those few inquisitive individuals to slowly wander through the doors. Sometimes, often in the past, it was an onslaught of angry individuals, fired up and/or misinformed, rushing through the doors. Staff representatives moved into damage control mode. This, thankfully, is what public engagement used to look like.
